Says New Prescription Drug Benefit Will Help Macon County Seniors

Tuskegee, Ala.  -  Macon County seniors will benefit from lower prescription drug prices and better service at rural hospitals and clinics, U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers said Wednesday in Tuskegee. While the new law isn’t perfect and will need some fine tuning, Rogers said, it’s still better than no drug benefit at all.

“Macon County seniors needed relief from high drug costs and Congress listened,” Rogers said. “This law will help seniors save some money on their drug bills and strengthen our rural hospitals for years to come.”

Rogers said rural health facilities, like those in Macon County, will benefit under the new law. Medicare will reimburse doctors at higher rates and hospitals will see increased funding, helping to improve the health of all local citizens. The Third District representative also took questions from the audience of approximately 50 people. In particular, he gave updates about the war in Iraq and answered questions about our military’s progress overseas.

“Many of you have sons, daughters, husbands, wives or other loved ones in the military,” he said. “I will do whatever it takes to ensure they have everything they need to do their jobs, and to get them home as soon as their missions are complete.”

Rogers also discussed progress on the Tuskegee Airmen museum. He said he was optimistic about the progress being made in securing funds for the facility, adding, “This project is essential for the economic growth of Macon County and I will continue to fight for its funding.” Rogers has helped secure over $1.5 million for the project in the past year.
