Washington, DC - The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System serves nearly 135,000 veterans each year in four separate facilities, one of which is located in Macon County. Friday, Congressman Mike Rogers paid a visit to the VA Hospital in Tuskegee to hear first hand from veterans receiving care, and to listen to the concerns of local doctors and administrators that provide veterans their services.
“While not perfect, I am pleased to see we are improving the quality of care provided to our nation’s veterans,” Rogers said. “I will continue to follow these issues closely and work to ensure Alabama’s veterans get the best possible care.”
The Third District representative toured the Tuskegee facility Friday along with several of the hospital’s administrators, and was given a briefing on the hospital’s services with an explanation of the differences between the East campus in Tuskegee and the West campus in Montgomery. Rogers toured most of the sprawling facility, including areas under construction that will soon provide new and more modern services for patients.
“In these times, we are reminded of the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families,” Rogers added. “Facilities like these are symbols of our commitment to their service and are essential for upholding our promises to the men and women in our armed forces.”
Hospital administrators said services provided by the facility include veterans’ primary care, medical and surgical care, mental health programs, geriatrics and extended care, and a homeless domiciliary.
