Ross Secures $50,000 in House Spending Bill for
Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department

(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Representative Mike Ross (AR-04) has successfully secured $50,000 for the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department in the Fiscal Year 2008 House Commerce and Justice, and Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill which passed the full U.S. House of Representatives Thursday.

Ross said the funds are intended to equip the department with the necessary tools and resources to combat drugs and drug trafficking.

“Despite budgetary constraints in our federal government, we must continue to ensure that our local law enforcement agencies have the necessary resources to keep our communities safe,” Ross said. “I am pleased that Sheriff Victor Rose brought this project to my attention and I am proud to have worked to secure these necessary funds on behalf of Lafayette County. We must combat drug usage and drug trafficking in our rural communities and these funds will assist Sheriff Rose in that goal."

Ross pledged his support to continue fighting for this important project as it moves through the appropriations process.

Upon passage of the Commerce and Justice, and Science, and Related Agencies Appropriation Bill in the Senate, the measure will then go to a Conference Committee of House and Senate members who will work to combine both Chambers’ bills to form a Conference Report. Upon passage of the Conference Report by the full House and Senate, the final bill will then be sent to the President to be signed into law.
