February 1, 2006—“Last night, we heard the President genuinely reach out to the American people and provide a broad agenda and vision for our nation’s future. 
 
“The President couldn’t have been more accurate in his address.  We are in historic times, and the people of America really should understand how crucial these times are.  This war we are fighting and this radical ideology of terrorism is one that ultimately threatens the Western world and the peace and security of our children and grandchildren. 

“Economically speaking, he touched on many major areas. In concert with education and the economy, the President reflected on the positive effects of his tax reform policy that have saved the American people billions of dollars, the need for an improved health care system, and battling our reliance on energy through technology.  He also really hit hard on the need for fiscal responsibility.”

“Republicans in Congress must be soldiers of fiscal responsibility.  It is our duty to be good stewards of taxpayer money, and I think it was a strong point made by the President.”
 
“Finally, the President’s remarks about the Senate confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito were a cause for celebration for all Americans.  In nominating Alito to the Supreme Court, the President chose a superior jurist who stood out over any nomination in the past 70 years in terms of qualifications.”

“Fifty years from now, the president will be known as a prescient statesman with both the insight and the courage to make a critical stand against terrorism and to restore the constitutional integrity of the United States Supreme Court.  The State of the Union has grown stronger under this president’s leadership.”
