Representative Franks Again Warns
Border Not Secure

July 1, 2005—Congressman Trent Franks has become aware of yet another threat to United States security on the US-Mexican border.  This week, federal authorities reported the capture of two Iraqis who planned to sneak into U.S. territory without necessary documentation.

"If these two Iraqis were captured attempting to cross our borders this week, I can virtually guarantee this breach has occurred undetected in the past.  Where there is smoke, there is fire; and this is an unacceptable level of risk to national security and a real cause for concern," said Franks.

This week's capture comes in the wake of an earlier scare that al-Jazeera news network intended on filming a one-hour special on the Arizona-Mexico border to highlight how porous it is.  Fortunately, the news network withdrew from filming due to outside pressure.

"My staff and I have been consistently voicing concerns, because I don’t think as a nation we understand how serious the situation is.  We must secure our borders and safeguard the citizens of America.  As it currently stands, we are wide-open to the threat of biological attack or even worse...," Franks said.

Trent Franks is the Congressman from the 2nd Congressional District of Arizona.  He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Judiciary Committee and Vice Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee.
