September 8, 2005—Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-2) addressed a group of 150 Hispanic pastors and clergy and other Democratic leaders from New York City to support the confirmation of Judge John G. Roberts to the position of Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Franks had this to say after the press conference:
“It is so encouraging to me to see people from all walks of life and political persuasions embracing John Roberts as the new Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. The growing understanding of the need to protect the United States Constitution from judicial activism is starting to be realized by all Americans.”
Franks stood alongside U.S. Senators Wayne Allard (R-CO), George Allen (R-VA), Sam Brownback (R-KS), James Inhofe (R-OK), U.S. Representative Luis Fortuno (Puerto Rico), and state senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-NY) who also runs the New York Hispanic Clergy Association. Today’s event was organized by the Religious Freedom Coalition.
Trent Franks is the Congressman from the 2nd Congressional District of Arizona. He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Judiciary Committee, Vice Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee, and a member of the Congressional Hispanic Conference.
