Representative Franks Honors the Life of
Rosa Parks

October 25, 2005—Congressman Trent Franks made the following statement regarding the passing of Rosa Parks, one of America’s legends and a hero of the civil rights movement.

“Rosa Parks made a profound statement in 1955 and defied all odds.  In a brief moment she made the decision that her human liberty – and that of others – was worth the fight.”

“Just as the famed patron of freedom, Frederick Douglass once said, ‘The struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or it may be both. But it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand; it never has and it never will.’  He and Rosa Parks both saw the struggle for human dignity as one that belonged to every single individual.   They both recognized that equality and human freedom were not owned by men, but were gifts from God to all of his children.”

“Rosa Parks single-handedly changed a nation.”

Trent Franks is the Congressman from the 2nd Congressional District of Arizona.  He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Judiciary Committee and Vice Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee.
