October 27, 2005—Yesterday, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-2) was recognized as a "True Blue" Member of Congress by the Family Research Council (FRC) for his unwavering commitment to children and family.
Franks, who is Chairman of the Voter Values Public Affairs Team for the House Republican Conference, had this to say:
"The protection of children and families and their constitutional rights is a foundational responsibility of the United States Congress.” Franks went on to say, “The family is the primary governing unit in America, and if it fails, we will bankrupt the nation in a futile effort to respond.”
The award honors representatives of the House who have exhibited extraordinary leadership and commitment to the defense of family, faith, and freedom, according to FRC's new scorecard covering House votes during the 1st Session of the 109th Congress. Recipients of the award voted consistently for pro-life and pro-family issues.
These votes included:
Repeal of Faith-Based Provisions in Job Training Improvement Act, Terri Schiavo Incapacitated Protection bill, Death Tax Penalty Permanency Act, Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, Reduce Funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, Embryonic Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, Abortions on Military Bases, Federal Hate Crimes Amendment, Protection of Display of 10 Commandments, Funding United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Coercive Abortion, Henry J. Hyde United Nations Reform Act of 2005, Constitutional Amendment to Prohibit Flag Desecration, Prevents Enforcement of Kelo Eminent Domain Ruling.
Trent Franks is the Congressman from the 2nd Congressional District of Arizona. He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Judiciary Committee and Vice Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee.
