October 31, 2005—Today, President George W. Bush announced Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. as his choice for Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-2) made the following statement regarding the nomination:
“Conservatives should loudly applaud President Bush for transcending recent criticisms and appointing Samul A. Alito, Jr., a superior Supreme Court nominee. Samuel Alito has proven himself to be a principled, highly qualified jurist who faithfully adheres to and reveres the original intent of the Constitution.”
“This is a political grand slam and a principled move by the President that will bring grateful reverberations for generations to come."
"The U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed Samuel Alito twice before, and I am now hopeful that the Senate will move quickly on providing Judge Alito a fair and dignified confirmation process to the United States Supreme Court.”
“Liberal Democrats in the Senate have arrogantly threatened filibuster. To do that will expose their utter disregard for the Constitution as well as their strategy to impose outrageous policy on the American people through judicial activism. If that's the fight they want, conservatives should give it to them for the sake of the Republic.”
Trent Franks is the Congressman from the 2nd Congressional District of Arizona. He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Judiciary Committee and Vice Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee.
