Franks Praises Republican Year-End Accomplishments

Attends Rally with Speaker Hastert

December 17, 2005—Today, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) stood alongside Speaker Dennis Hastert and other House Republicans to praise the GOP accomplishments thus far in the109th Congress.
Following today’s rally on the west front steps of the United States Capitol, Franks made the following statement:

“Today’s rally symbolizes how Republican House members have continued to pull together throughout the first session of the 109th Congress.  United we have been able to accomplish so much for America and help make our nation stronger and more secure.”

Franks went on to say that, “the Deficit Reduction Act was a monumental undertaking telling America that House Republicans are committed to fiscal discipline and implementing sound government solutions for the future.  The Pension Protection Act we passed yesterday added to our economic security by protecting workers and employers across the country.”

“And in this post-9-11 world, House Republicans remain firm and dedicated to our troops and to ensuring America is safe and protected.  Last night, we took a major step forward in the movement to secure our nation’s borders by passing one of the most important national security bills of the last ten years.  The Border Protection, Antiterrorism and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005 will begin to answer the call of the American people for border security and accountability.”

“Our economy is stronger – with the national unemployment rate at 5.0% and Arizona’s rate falling to 4.8%.  The stage has been set for boosted border protection.  We remain united and faithful in the fight against terrorism and are strongly committed to our troops overseas.  While much has been accomplished over this last year, I am enthusiastic and encouraged about what I know we can achieve in the second session of the 109th Congress.”

Trent Franks is the Congressman from the 2nd Congressional District of Arizona.  He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Judiciary Committee and Vice Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee.
