December 19, 2005—Yesterday, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) discussed his thoughts on Iraq with Kiran Chetry of FOX & Friends.  In regard to Iraq and the War on Terror, Franks made the following statements:

“We are winning the war in Iraq.   The only place we are really losing it is on the Democratic aisle of the Congress and in the liberal media.”

“The truth is with a 70% [voter] turnout in Iraq -- that is historic.   And this, again, with the people who have been in bondage since the day they called their nation Babylon.   This is a big deal.  And it means that potentially we will see a beachhead of freedom in Iraq which could turn the whole of humanity in a better direction.”

“We are at war and the one thing we cannot afford is defeat.   I think probably, Kiran, the thing that is most concerning to me is that people don't seem to understand on the liberal side of the perspective that this is an ideological enemy that is bent on the destruction of the Western world.   You can't throw powder puffs at them.   This is a battle we must win.”

Trent Franks is the Congressman from the 2nd Congressional District of Arizona.  He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Judiciary Committee and Vice Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee.
