Franks Addresses High Gas Prices and Foreign Oil Dependency

"Democrates Continue to Impede Efforts for Domestic Oil and Gas Production"

May 3, 2006 – Today, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) co-signed a letter to President Bush praising his four point plan regarding gas prices and asking for the President’s continued support in reducing America’s dependency on foreign oil.  Franks has been speaking out on his frustration with the current situation of rising gas prices nationwide and on the continued political grandstanding of Democrats against solid energy policies.

“Every effort we have made to put long-term policy solutions in place have been obstructed by Democrats who prefer to speak rhetorically rather than produce positive results.”

“Our country’s dependence on foreign-produced oil has reached a critical point and threatens the security of our nation.  I will continue to engage in this battle with Democrats if I must, but I have to say that I am astounded that Democrats are holding our nation’s security hostage in order to posture themselves politically.  The American people are looking to us for answers, both immediate and long-term.”

“As I have continually stated for years, we the need to open ANWR for drilling to increase our domestic oil production.  We must also utilize and expound on new technologies and alternate fuels as well as increase manufacturing of pipelines and refineries.  These are a must in order to ease the cost of gasoline for our constituents at the pump.”

Trent Franks is the Congressman from the 2nd Congressional District of Arizona.  He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Judiciary Committee and Vice Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee.
