WASHINGTON – Congressman Dennis Cardoza today announced the selection of three students from the 18th Congressional District for nomination to the class of 2013 for the U.S military academies.

“It is a pleasure to nominate this distinguished group on behalf of the 18th District,” said Cardoza. “These fine young people and their families should be very proud. Each is an exceptional nominee with the potential to win an appointment.”

The nominated students are:
Leonardo Alamillo Jr. of Merced High School has been nominated to the Air Force Academy.
Darrell Cherf of Merced High School has been nominated to the Air Force Academy.
David Choe of Merced High School has been nominated to the Military Academy at West Point.

Each year, Congressman Cardoza has the privilege of nominating talented young men and women from California’s 18th congressional district to the nation’s service academies. Cardoza’s Academy Selection Committee interviewed each applicant and made its recommendations to Cardoza last week. The selection of nominees is based on a composite of academic factors, including junior class rank and SAT scores, along with leadership potential.
