WASHINGTON, D.C – With Congressman Cardoza’s strong support, the House of Representatives today passed the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act. The legislation aims to create hundreds of thousands of jobs in the United States.

“Few regions in the nation are suffering more from the recession than the San Joaquin Valley,” said Cardoza. “This is another critical step forward in creating jobs, strengthening our economy, and bringing the help we need in our community.”

The legislation provides a host of mechanisms to boost employment and strengthen the economy. Among them are providing:

• Tax incentives and credits for businesses to hire unemployed workers.
• Funding for infrastructure projects.
• Tax cuts to help small businesses invest and expand.

Under the Pay-As-You-Go spending law enacted earlier this year, the legislation will be fully paid for without adding a single dime to the deficit or increasing the national debt.

“Businesses on Main Street are the backbone of the American economy,” said Cardoza. “This common-sense legislation will allow them to invest, expand, and help get countless unemployed Americans back on company payrolls. Nowhere is that more necessary than in the San Joaquin Valley. We needed this kind of help last week, and we needed it a year ago. My constituents remain long overdue for economic relief and this bill marks a step toward providing it.”
