| WASHINGTON – Congressman Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced, today announced the appointment of Michael Withrow, Brooke Lunde, and Will Holmes, all of Modesto, to the U.S. Air Force Academy – Colorado Springs. “Congratulations to Michael, Brooke, and Will,” Cardoza said. “I know they are extremely deserving of their acceptances and will serve our country with distinction. They are an impressive group.” Withrow is a 2004 graduate of Central Catholic High School, Lunde is a senior at Oakdale Charter High School, and Holmes is a senior at Beyer High School. Lunde was also accepted to the U.S. Military Academy – West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy – A local Academy Selection Committee interviewed each applicant earlier this year and made recommendations to Cardoza. The selection of nominees was based on a composite of academic factors, including junior class rank and SAT scores, along with leadership potential. The congressman’s nominations were then forwarded to the academies, which made final decisions. |
