The Children’s Home, established in 1882, is a nonprofit, private facility providing educational services and residential treatment to 110 children and youth.

“We are very pleased and honored to receive this national, bipartisan award from Congressman Cardoza and the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute,” said Mark Phelps, who serves as Executive Director of The Children’s Home.  “It is a tribute to this community, the Children’s Home staff, and the students we serve.”

The event is hosted by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI), a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to raising congressional and public awareness about tens of thousands of foster children across the country and millions of orphans around the world in need of permanent, safe, and loving homes.

Each year, CCAI invites all members of Congress to participate in the selection of people from their home states who have improved the lives of foster children and orphans.  In addition, some Angels in Adoption are selected for raising awareness about children in need on a national level.  This year, CCAI will honor actress Jane Seymour, PGA golfer Kirk Triplett, and Orlando Magic Vice President Pat Williams among others.

The Angels in Adoption program was created in 1999 to raise public awareness of the many different ways that committed individuals can help children and families through adoption.  There are millions of children around the globe in need of adoptive homes.  In the U.S. alone, more than 550,000 children are in the foster care system with tens of thousands available for adoption.
