WASHINGTON – Congressman Dennis Cardoza’s (D-Merced) office is working closely with officials at the local, state and federal levels to ensure that resources are made available for flood recovery and prevention efforts in the Central Valley.  Cardoza applauded the Governor for granting state assistance on Monday for Merced, Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties in the 18th Congressional district.

Congressman Cardoza’s office has coordinated with  the Governor’s office and FEMA on ongoing efforts to establish the extent of damage caused by the flooding.  These assessments will help determine whether the Governor – who makes the final decision on whether to apply for federal disaster aid – will request a federal disaster declaration. While the threshold for federal aid has not yet been reached, Congressman Cardoza is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to expedite the process if the Governor deems it appropriate.

“I will continue to work closely with all involved agencies to monitor this situation and bring in any needed additional resources as events warrant,” said Cardoza.
