| WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded Golden Valley Health Centers two grants worth $454,861 this week to help GVHC offer affordable quality health care to a greater percentage of low-income Central Valley residents.
The grants will assist GVHC in opening a new community health center in Le Grand and providing increased dental care to residents in the Los Banos and Dos Palos areas. The funding was secured with help from Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced. "This is a wonderful opportunity for Golden Valley Health Centers to improve health care access to our residents in greatest need. We are extremely grateful to Dennis and his staff," said Michael O. Sullivan, chief executive officer of Golden Valley Health Centers. "I’m pleased that this money is going to such a deserving organization with a proven record of helping Valley residents," Cardoza said. "We have to continue to do everything we can to expand health care coverage in the Central Valley, especially among low-income populations that suffer the most from the inadequacies of our health care delivery system." GVHC is need-blind and able to serve the special populations that are prominent in the Central Valley, including many migrant seasonal farm workers. GVHC provides care in eight Valley communities through fifteen different centers. Without the GVHC comprehensive health system, many Valley citizens would not receive adequate care. |
