| WASHINGTON – Congressman Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced, issued the following statement tonight in response to the President’s State of the Union address: “I admire President Bush’s continuing efforts to protect the American people and promote freedom abroad, but his plan to privatize Social Security is irresponsible. We are in the middle of a fiscal crisis. If the President was serious about addressing our fiscal challenges, as he says he is, he would not present a Social Security plan that digs us trillions deeper into debt. When all the facts are presented, the American people will understand that this is a reckless solution that we can’t afford.” “I look forward to working on a bipartisan basis in Congress to pursue more sensible ways to ensure Social Security’s long-term viability.” |
