HARMAN PRAISES DECISION TO KEEP REDONDO POST OFFICE OPEN

Lawmaker says “closing post offices will not achieve significant savings”

November 20, 2009
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Jane Harman (D-Venice) hailed the United States Postal Service’s decision not to close the North Redondo Post Office in Redondo Beach.  The facility had been under review as part of the Postal Service’s Station and Branch Optimization study, which could still close hundreds of postal facilities around the country.  The Galleria Station in Redondo remains under scrutiny.

“This is 6 out of 7,” said Harman.  “I know the Postal Service faces considerable budget constraints, but closing post offices will not achieve significant savings.  These facilities are important fixtures in our communities, and I will continue to fight to keep the Galleria Station open.”

Seven post offices in the 36th District were listed for potential closure when the Postal Service began its study.  Six of them—the Del Amo, Marcelina, and Walteria Stations in Torrance, the Lennox Branch in Inglewood, the Hermosa Beach Station and the North Redondo Station—are no longer under review.
