Congresswoman Brown Extremely Disappointed as Commuter Rail Fails to Pass Florida State Senate Vote

(Washington, DC) - Upon hearing about the failure of commuter rail in the Florida state legislature, Congresswoman Brown made the following statement:

"As the Chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Railroads and Hazardous Materials, I am saddened that the first step towards improving transportation options in Central Florida was derailed today by the state legislature," said Congresswoman Brown. "The agreement is long overdue and Floridians will again be denied the benefits of reduced highway congestion, improved air quality and an alternative way to travel.  Moreover, the state will now lose out on $308 million in federal funding for state transportation projects related to SunRail, which will now be diverted to other states.

We have worked with all of the stakeholders in Central Florida, as well as the state and federal government for many years to provide financial and logistical support for commuter rail, and I am extraordinarily disappointed that the Florida state legislature voted to deny commuter rail to Central Florida."
