(Washington, DC) - Congresswoman Corrine Brown voted in support of the omnibus appropriations bill in the House of Representatives. The omnibus, which was signed into law by President Obama, will work in conjunction with the economic recovery package, and make investments that address our nation's immediate needs and promote our long term economic strength, will appropriate $410 billion for last year's FY 2009 appropriations bills to fund the federal agencies. Thematically, some of the essential federal funding in the bill includes funding for:

Energy Security: Increases funding for renewable energy and energy efficiency efforts to increase the production of clean, efficient, American energy key to our long term economic security;

Scientific Research: Makes strong investments into cutting edge science so that our nation will maintain its preeminence in the global economy; Healthcare Access and Affordability: Improves access to quality, affordable healthcare;

Education to Promote Opportunity: Promotes our future economic strength by investing in K-12 education and helping families send their kids to college;

Workers: Helps American workers in the tough economy train for and find good jobs in safe workplaces;

Safe and Healthy America: Protects Americans by investing in programs to ensure clean air and water, and the safety of our food, medicine and consumer products;

A Critical Look: Cuts and eliminates programs that haven't performed the way they should and includes strict accountability measures to ensure American tax dollars are spent wisely. Invests in oversight efforts carried out by the Inspectors General and the Government Accountability Office;

Regulation for an Economy in Chaos: Strengthens regulatory agencies that had been neglected, to beef up their efforts during the economic crisis.

In the Commerce – Justice – State bill, the third district will receive:
$1,200,000 for The Jacksonville Journey's Anti-Violence Initiative; $550,000 for Alachua County's Comprehensive Management of Offenders with Co-occurring Mental Illness and Addiction Disorders; $200,000 for the Phoenix House of Jacksonville, for residential treatment enhancements; $100,000 Orange County's Methamphetamine Prevention and Remediation of Clandestine Labs Program; $700,000 for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for atmospheric detection equipment; $200,000 for Jacksonville's New Life Village to support at risk youth; $150,000 to enhance law enforcement technology in Lake County; $170,000 to enhance law enforcement technology in Maitland; $400,000 for Florida's National Police Athletic/Activities League
Energy & Water Appropriations bill:
$3,349,000 for Jacksonville Port Authority's Harbor Dredging; $5,650,000 for Jacksonville Port Authority's Operations and Maintenance; $4,019,000 for Intercostal Waterway Dredging the State of Florida $237,875 for Orange County's Solar Demonstration & Research Facility

$285,000 for Jacksonville's Community Resource Center; $333,333 for the City of Jacksonville's - Jacksonville Journey Alternative $333,000 for education programs in Duval County; $285,000 for an Instructional Technology Initiative for Duval County Schools; $48,000 for Duval County School District's Take a Step Initiative; $523,000 for Orange County's Primary Care Network (PCAN)
