(Washington, DC) - Congresswoman Corrine Brown was thrilled to announce that $3 million in "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act" funding was slated for Duval County’s Mayport Ferry. The funding was intended mainly for terminal improvements, which include ramp upgrades for safety. This grant was a part of $60 million in overall grants released today by the Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood, to improve ferry service and save and create jobs under the economic stimulus package nationwide.
"I am simply ecstatic to see these important transportation funds coming into Duval County," said Congresswoman Brown. The Congresswoman continued: "as I always say, for every $1 billion invested in transportation infrastructure, approximately 42,000 jobs are created. That said, I am not only excited to see the future improvements to the Ferry itself, but also the employment opportunities it will provide to the area. I wholeheartedly believe that in the long run, the economic stimulus plan, and particularly funding for transportation and infrastructure projects within the stimulus, will rebuild our country and make us more globally competitive, as well provide immediate short and long-term economic growth to our nation during this difficult economic period."
