Joint Statement of
U.S. Rep. John Mica and U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown
On Signing of Comprehensive Rail Bill in Florida

(Washington, DC) - U.S. Reps. John L. Mica (FL-07) and Corrine Brown (FL-03) today hailed the signing into law of momentous rail legislation passed by the Florida legislature in a special session last week.

"The Florida legislature's enactment of comprehensive rail legislation places our state in a strong position to partner with the federal government in improving our transportation infrastructure for the future.

"The legislation signed today by Governor Crist will enable Florida to enter the 21st century of cost effective, environmentally friendly and energy efficient transportation alternatives.

"Our state legislative leaders successfully transformed a regional transportation issue into a statewide blueprint for helping improve our transportation systems, and create jobs now and for the future.  Florida now has a model for others to follow, rather than trailing behind in the national competition to improve freight and passenger rail, and multimodal transportation services.

"We strongly support this legislative initiative and look forward to working with our local partners and leaders across the state to continue meeting the transportation needs of all Floridians."

Mica is the Republican Leader of the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Brown is the Chairwoman of the U.S. House Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee.
