Ros-Lehtinen Pleased With House Vote That Would Extend The Higher Education Act |
|||||
|
The Higher Education Act authorizes the federal government’s student aid programs to support postsecondary education attendance. It also authorizes other major programs such as those providing assistance to special groups of Institutions of Higher Education and support services to enable disadvantaged students to complete secondary school and enter and finish their college education. The legislation includes expanding need based financial aid, strengthening college preparation for low income and first generation college students, expands the capacity of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI’s), simplifies student aid, helps to aggressively tackle college costs and is committed to teacher excellence at HIS’s and all schools and universities. Said Ros-Lehtinen, “This legislation is essential and I am pleased of its passage. The Higher Education Act is one of the most important educational legislative achievements of our time so this re-authorization assures its existence and its success.” ### |
