|
The Higher Education Act authorizes the federal government’s student aid programs to support postsecondary education attendance. It also authorizes other major programs such as those providing assistance to special groups of Institutions of Higher Education and support services to enable disadvantaged students to complete secondary school and enter and finish their college education. This legislation contains provisions that aim to increase transparency in college costs, public and private financial aid. In addition, it establishes a grant and scholarship programs to encourage institutions and students to focus on the fields of science, technology, engineering, math, foreign language and law. Said Ros-Lehtinen, “This is a good educational push for our nation as it keeps in place, and indeed improves, one of the most important legislative achievements of the Congress.” ### |
