Congresswoman Hirono Announces $250 Economic Recovery Payments to Social Security Recipients to be Dispersed Starting May 7
$54.96 Million Dollars to be Sent to Hawai‘i
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawai‘i) today announced that the $250 economic recovery payments for Social Security recipients, which were provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will begin to go out on May 7 – with the goal of every payment being dispersed by the end of May.
$54.96 million will be delivered to recipients in Hawai‘i. Of that, $26.3 million will be dispersed throughout Hawai‘i’s 2nd Congressional District.
“Close to 200,000 social security recipients in Hawai‘i will receive this $250 payment,” said Hirono. “It is my hope that this recovery payment can help recipients meet some basic needs, as many of them have been hit especially hard during this tough economy.”
Payments totaling more than $13 billion will go out to more than 50 million Americans. Millions of Social Security recipients receiving these payments are widowed, divorced, or single and among the seniors with the lowest average incomes.
