WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawai‘i) today announced the awarding of $805,594 in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding to assist Kaua‘i County in its efforts to meet the housing, public facility, public service, and economic development needs of its low and moderate income citizens.
The federal funding will be distributed through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The Kaua‘i County Housing Agency administers the CDBG program according to HUD regulations. The objective of the program is to provide decent housing, a suitable and safe living environment, and to expand economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate income persons of Kaua‘i County.
CDBG funding for Kaua‘i County includes:
- $750,000 to help build affordable rental housing in Phase 2 of Pa‘anau Village rental project in Koloa, Kaua‘i. The County will seek a development partner to complete this 50 to 60 phase.

The installation of a 2,225 foot 8" sewer line along the State road to the property line of Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity's Ele'ele I1una subdivision will replace the existing sewer line which is inadequate to handle the additional 125 houselots.
