Washington, D.C.— Congressman Steve King (R-IA) was pleased to welcome the 76 members of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce who came to Washington this week for the group’s 50th annual lobbying trip to Capitol Hill. The highlight of their visit was Wednesday night’s now-famous steak dinner, featuring Iowa’s own corn-fed beef.
“The Siouxland Chamber’s annual visit serves as a special opportunity for me and my staff to speak in depth with business leaders from the 5th District’s largest metropolitan area,” said King. “It also happens to be one of the only times each year that I am able to get a decent steak out here in the nation’s capitol!”
King used this week’s full schedule of meetings to discuss his legislative priorities with the group. At the Chamber Breakfast, Maurice Welte, Woodbury County Supervisor, reported that 92% of the Chamber’s 1200 members said that Highway 20 was their top priority, and other topics at the top of their list included health insurance premiums and the death tax.
“I refuse to check into the next life until I cut the ribbon on Highway 20 and open it all the way from Sioux City to Dubuque,” said King.
King secured over $9 million for 5th District transportation projects in the House’s Transportation Reauthorization Bill this year. |
