Washington, D.C.—{Iowa Congressman Steve King today announced that the Department of Health and Human Services is launching a price-comparison function on its website and 800 number. This new feature will allow seniors to see how much they'll save with the new prescription drug discount cards and will assist them in deciding which of the available Medicare-approved discount cards they should sign up for.
“Seniors can begin signing up for the prescription drug discount cards approved by the Medicare bill on Monday, May 3rd,” said King. “Over 30% of Iowa’s Fifth District constituents are eligible for these cards, which will save them up to $600 a year.”
The Department of Health and Human Services’ price-comparison function at www.medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE allows all seniors to see how much they will save with the new prescription drug discount cards.
All a constituent needs to do to take advantage of the information on the site is enter their ZIP code, a list of the medications they take, and how far they are willing to travel to a pharmacy (i.e., 1 mile, 5 miles, etc.), and the site will show them which card offers the greatest savings in their area.
"I want to take this opportunity to encourage all seniors to utilize this very helpful resource," said King.
