CHICAGO -- Today, U.S. Rep. Bobby L. Rush (Il-01) encouraged all Americans to commemorate Earth Day, the annual U.S. celebration of the environment by encouraging Americans to commit to environmental volunteerism and the creation of green jobs. "As we honor the earth, I encourage all Americans to commit to improving the environment of their communities by volunteering, recycling and creating strategies to make our neighborhoods safe and healthy places for our children," Rep. Rush said. "I remain committed to sustainable energy usage and healthful living practices. I support renewable energy alternatives, the movement for food access in America’s food deserts and the creation of green collar jobs. The earth gives so much to its inhabitants and it is important for its inhabitants to give something back to the earth." Rep. Rush created the Good Greens Festival, a groundbreaking event aimed at launching a new movement to engage African Americans in the issues of food access, health, and green economy jobs in Chicago and throughout the United States. The event is expected to be held for a second year in September 2009. # # # |
