Washington DC…As the ongoing appropriations process continues in Congress, U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson (IL-15) announced today that the McLean County community of Lexington has been approved for $175,000 in federal grant money to implement a wastewater treatment system. The grant has cleared the House, however awaits approval from the Senate.
“I take great pride in addressing the needs of the constituents and the communities I represent,” said Rep. Johnson. “Lexington has been the exception to the rule for a Downstate Illinois community, and has seen fairly substantial growth. Their existing infrastructure cannot continue to serve the growing population and Lexington is in dire need of a wastewater treatment system. I have worked countless hours with Mayor Feigl and the community leaders on this project, and I am very confident that we can deliver the needed funding.”
The wastewater treatment system would include modern, state-of-the-art facilities, including a sanitary sewer collection system, pumping stations and a treatment plant. This project upon completion would satisfy community needs, support further growth in Lexington and comply with all federal and state environmental regulations.
