Kildee Helps Secure More Than $40,000

for Flushing Fire Department

Washington – Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the Flushing Fire Department in Flushing, Michigan has been awarded $43,700 in federal funding. The grant will be used to improve operations and safety.

“Firefighters risk their lives to protect us. We must do everything we can to help them do their job,” Congressman Kildee said. “This grant will provide the Flushing Fire Department with resources they need to keep their community safe.”

The Congressman also said that Flushing Fire Department Chief Ron Downing’s excellent work on his grant application helped the fire department receive the competitive funding.

This grant was awarded by the Department of Homeland Security’s FY 2006 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program with funds appropriated by Congress.

Congressman Kildee was an original cosponsor of The Firefighter Investment and Response Enhancement (FIRE) Act, which authorized the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This legislation was passed in 2000 and allowed FEMA to award $485 million to fire departments throughout the nation in order to support fire protection, EMS delivery, and vehicle purchase and prevention programs in 2006.
