Washington – Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that $1,145,910 in federal funding will be awarded to housing authorities and nonprofit organizations in Genesee County. The funds will be used to provide assistance to the homeless.
“Better access to housing means a better quality of life,” Congressman Kildee said. “These funds will provide many families a helping hand so they can find homes and live better lives.”
Specifically, $968,418 will be awarded to Metro Housing Partnership, Inc., which provides housing services and $177,492 will go to the Genesee County Community Action Resource Department, which provides shelter and other services.
The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care, a competitive grant program that provides funds to several public and private nonprofit organizations. A goal of this program is to help the homeless become independent and self-sufficient.
