Washington – Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that $599,849 in federal grants will be awarded to MottCommunity College in Flint to fund Upward Bound, a program that provides assistance to low-income and potential first generation college students preparing to enter postsecondary education.
“MottCommunity College is a vital part of Flint that helps our young people succeed,” Congressman Kildee said. “This funding will allow MottCommunity College to assist even more students so they can have a brighter future.”
The goal of Upward Bound is to enable participants to complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. Upward Bound grants support academic instruction in math, laboratory sciences, composition, literature, and foreign languages, as well as tutoring, counseling, mentoring, cultural enrichment and work-study programs.
The U.S. Department of Education awarded this grant with funds appropriated by Congress. |
