Washington, D.C.– Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) today announced the first place winner and finalists of Michigan’s 5th Congressional District for the 26th Annual Congressional Arts Competition. This annual event is held in each of the 435 Congressional Districts to highlight the importance of art education.
All of the artwork in the competition is two-dimensional and can be in any medium.
“I am so proud of all the students in the 5th Congressional District who participated in this event,” Congressman Kildee said. “The creativity and imagination of our students will be on full display either in my Michigan offices or in Washington, D.C.”
The following high school students from Michigan’s 5th Congressional District were selected as first place winner or finalist by a panel of local Michigan artists:
· Jenna Lanzon of Linden High School in Linden, MI for Purple Aster and Hibiscus

· Anastassia Fulmer of Grand Blanc High School in Grand Blanc, MI for Still Life
Finalist
· Mark Stevenson of Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, MI for Life Goes On
Finalist
· Kara Mooney of Caro High School in Caro, MI for A Walk Through the Cemetery
Finalist
Jenna, the first place winner, will have her work, Purple Aster, displayed in the hallway of the U.S. Capitol for one year along with other qualifying pieces from every Congressional District in the nation. In addition, Jenna will be eligible to receive a $5,000 scholarship from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia to study at that school. Anastassia, Mark, Kara's work and Jenna's other work Hibiscus, will be displayed in Congressman Kildee's district offices on a rotating basis.
