Washington – Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that $2,799,354 in federal funds has been awarded to Genesee County for housing, homeless assistance and community development initiatives.
“A better home means a better life. That is why it is so important to provide a helping hand to hard-working families who need housing assistance,” Congressman Kildee said. “Hopefully, these grants will go a long way to improve the lives of many individuals and families in the Genesee County area.”
Specifically, these four grants have been awarded to Genesee County:
- $1,896,035 from the Community Development Block Grants program, which seeks to provide decent housing and suitable living environments while expanding economic opportunities primarily for low and moderate-income people.
- $805,300 from the HOME program, which works to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low and very low-income families.
- $82,155 from the Emergency Shelter Grants program, which works to improve the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters.
- $15,864 from the American Dream Downpayment Initiative, which promotes homeownership opportunities by providing necessary resources for downpayment and closing cost assistance to low-income and minority households.
These grants come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, with funds appropriated by Congress.
