Washington – Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that two federal grants totaling $95,000 have been awarded to Tuscola County to strengthen the local economy.
“The economy is a community’s backbone so we must do everything we can to strengthen it,” Congressman Kildee said. “These funds will help create jobs in Tuscola and hopefully bring more revenue to local businesses, improving the region’s quality of life.”
The first grant will provide $30,000 for the Enterprise Facilitation project. This initiative focuses on assisting entrepreneurs, both existing and new, with their various needs, including technical assistance. The project is not only expected to create at least 25 new jobs a year, but it will also incubate businesses so they can have a better chance to succeed.
Congressman Kildee worked to ensure that this project received the funds. Last month, the Congressman wrote a letter to the United State Department of Agriculture specifically requesting funds for the Enterprise Facilitation project.
At the request of the Village of Millington Downtown Development Authority, the USDA also provided $65,000 to the Village to purchase restaurant equipment. The Village will lease the equipment at low cost to a private developer which will open and operate a restaurant in the Village. This project is expected to provide year round employment to approximately 20 employees.
These grants come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture with funds appropriated by Congress.
