WASHINGTON - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the Flint, Saginaw, and Bay City Housing Commissions would receive $4,060,771 from the Capital Fund Program for modernization, development and management improvements. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the Fiscal Year 2005 Capital Fund Program formula grants to help rehabilitate distressed communities and to improve the standard of living. HUD announced that the Flint Housing Commission would receive $2,049,809, the Saginaw Housing Commission would receive $1,025,276, and the Bay City Housing Commission would receive $985,686.
“By providing low-income families with better access to affordable public housing we will be able to help build a safer community and create more job opportunities,” said Kildee. “This funding will improve the standard of living for low-income families and the quality of public services available to all low-income residents living in Flint, Saginaw, and Bay City.”
The Capital Fund Program grants will be used to improve the quality and efficiency of public housing agencies in the 5th District. The federal funding may also cover the cost of providing replacement housing. |
