| Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Flint’s Bishop International Airport would receive a grant of $6,299,207 from the Federal Aviation Administration. The Airport Improvement Program of the FAA provided the $6.3 million grant. The Airport Improvement Program provides funding for projects that enhance safety, security, and operational efficiency of airports by rehabilitating and modernizing existing infrastructure.
“Bishop Airport’s growth continues to bring valuable economic benefits to Genesee County and Oakland County,” said Kildee. “This funding will allow Bishop Airport to continue its growth and modernization. By rehabilitating the infrastructure of the airport, these funds will help maintain the integrity and competitive edge of Bishop Airport”.
This grant will provide funding for a multi-year project that will help rehabilitate runway 9-27 and associated portions of taxiway “C”. The project also includes the reconfiguration and widening of four exit taxiways and the construction of two new taxiways. In addition, a perimeter fence will be installed in order to deter wildlife from entering operational areas of the airport. The final phase of the rehabilitation will be completed as additional funds become available.
All of these projects will help restore the integrity, security, safety and efficiency of Bishop Airport. According to the FAA, all statutory requirements have been met for the projects approval. The grant is now ready for obligation and release. |
