Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the fifth congressional district of Michigan would receive $424,561 and share part of $2.84 million to fund local housing and service programs that provide assistance to the homeless. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded these funds to public and private nonprofit organizations across Michigan that are committed to helping the homeless become independent and self-sufficient.
“In order to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty, we must provide immediate access to housing and support services to every homeless individual,” said Kildee. “This funding will enable public and private nonprofit organizations to provide homeless individuals with critical assistance that will enable them to avoid a life on the streets.”
