Kildee Helps Secure More Than $260,000

for Genesee County Fire Departments

Washington – Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the City of Burton Fire Department has been awarded $172,449 and the Montrose Township Fire Department has been awarded $93,551 in federal funds. The grants will help these fire departments improve operations and safety.

“Our firefighters put themselves in danger to keep us safe. It is important we do everything we can to help them do their job,” Congressman Kildee said. “This grant will provide firefighters in Montrose and Burton the resources they need to protect their communities.”

The grants were awarded by the Department of Homeland Security’s FY 2006 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program with funds appropriated by Congress.

Congressman Kildee was an original cosponsor of The Firefighter Investment and Response Enhancement (FIRE) Act, which authorized the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This legislation was passed in 2000 and allowed FEMA to award $485 million to fire departments throughout the nation in order to support fire protection, EMS delivery, and vehicle purchase and prevention programs in 2006.
