| Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced several improvements to this year’s Congressional arts competition. Student participants will benefit from a significant increase in the amount of the scholarship and a discount on travel expenditures.
“I hope that these incentives will help motivate students to participate in this year’s arts competition,” said Kildee. “However, we should continue to encourage students to participate because the experience is personally gratifying and mentally rewarding.”
The Savannah College of Art and Design has increased this year’s Artistic Honors Scholarship from $10,000 to $12,000. As previously noted, the Savannah College of Art and Design will offer an Artistic Honors Scholarship to any student accepted to the college with the winning entry from each district.
In order to defer some of the travel expenses, Southwest Airlines has graciously offered 10% off their lowest fare to Baltimore-Washington International Airport from any destination between June 18, 2002 and July 2, 2002. This contribution will enable many contest winners to attend the awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on June 25, 2002. Interested participants should call 1-800-433-5368 and reference the event I.D. code #R1845. Flight reservations must be made at least five days in advance.
