| Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the City of Flint would receive $250,000 for upgrades to its 911 emergency response system. Last April, Kildee formally requested these funds from the Appropriation Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, State and Judiciary. Kildee’s appropriations request was fortunately included in the final version of the Commerce, Justice, State and Judiciary Appropriations bill.
“I am delighted that my colleagues understood the urgent need to upgrade the current 911 system in Flint by including my initial appropriations request in the final version of the Commerce, Justice, State and Judiciary Appropriations bill,” said Kildee. “We must make sure that the residents of Flint have immediate access to the best emergency response system available. These upgrades and technological improvements will ultimately help save lives by improving the efficiency of our local emergency response system.”
The City of Flint’s 911 system is currently funded by a surcharge on phone lines within Genesee County. The $250,000 earmark will alleviate the financial burden that is placed on residents for the 911 emergency response services. In addition, this funding will help bring the City of Flint’s 911 up to speed with other jurisdictions in the region. This funding will allow the City of Flint to coordinate emergency response activities with the Michigan State Police and the rest of Genesee County. |
