Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that he has returned $43,091 in unspent taxpayer-financed congressional funding to the U.S. Treasury following the 110th Congress (2007-2008). Since first elected to the U.S. Congress, Kildee has turned back a total of $1,442,516 to the U.S. Treasury– a fact that has earned him a reputation for being one of the most frugal and fiscally responsible members of Congress.
“The money that runs my office is entrusted by the taxpayer, and I don’t forget that,” said Kildee. “Every office expenditure is made with full consideration that it will be to a direct benefit and service to the people of Michigan’s 5th district.”
The savings were returned from the operating budget to run Rep. Kildee’s congressional office in Washington, D.C. and his district offices in Bay City, Flint and Saginaw. The operating budget funds district mail, personnel compensation, travel, rent and utilities, and supply and equipment expenditures.
