Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) today encouraged high school art students in the 5th Congressional District of Michigan to submit their artwork for the 26th Annual Congressional Art Competition. The annual competition is held to highlight the importance of art education in more than 200 congressional districts nationally.
The winning entry will be exhibited in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year, and the student will be eligible for a $5,000 scholarship to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. Additional finalists will have their pieces displayed in Congressman Kildee’s district offices on a rotating basis.
“Every year I am excited to see the works of the brilliant minds of mid-Michigan,” said Kildee. “It is with great pride that I can offer to young artists the opportunity to display their work in the nation’s Capitol.”
Students of public and private high schools as well as of alternative or vocational schools are invited submit a work of art by April 25, 2008. Entries can be submitted in any of the following medium: painting, drawing, collage, print, mixed media, computer generated or photography, and must be:
- from a student who attends a school located in Michigan’s 5th Congressional District
- two-dimensional (no sculptures); and
- no larger then 30'' by 30'' to the outside dimensions of the frame.
A panel of local art professionals in Michigan will select the winner and finalists.
