Close-Up Students
Visit Congressman Dale E. Kildee

Several Genesee County high school students participating in the Close-Up program met with Congressman Kildee in Washington, D.C.   Nearly 40 students from Flint Central High School, Davison High School, Bendle High School, Beecher High School, Hamady High School, Kearsley High School, Flint Southwestern Academy and Powers High School visited with Congressman Kildee while attending an educational trip to our nation’s capital.

During their meeting with Congressman Kildee, all of the students had an opportunity to ask the Congressman questions about his congressional responsibilities and his positions on policy.  The students asked intelligent and sophisticated questions about the current issues that confront the district, the state of Michigan and the entire country.

“After interacting with these students, I am confident that our nation’s future is in good hands,” said Kildee.  “These students possess the political awareness that will help our nation reach its full potential in the 21st century.”

As a former teacher, Congressman Kildee was delighted to meet and discuss the legislative process with these students.  The Congressman was impressed with their knowledge of the political process and current events.  As a ranking member of the Education and Workforce Committee, Congressman Kildee supports programs that emphasize civic education.

“Educational programs, like Close-Up, have significantly helped increase political awareness and participation among our nation’s youth,” said Kildee.  “These types of educational programs provide students with a wonderful opportunity to meet with their elected representatives and to witness the political process in action.”
