Kildee Secures $3 Million for
Bay City and Tuscola County
In the Federal Highway and Transit Bill

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee announced today that Bay City and Tuscola County would receive a total of $2,999,160 in federal funding under H.R. 3550, the Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (TEA-LU).  Kildee originally requested these funds from the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to restore the integrity of our local roads and to improve traffic safety in Bay City and Tuscola County.  Kildee’s funding requests were included in TEA-LU, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives earlier today.

“I am delighted that I was able to secure nearly $3 million in federal funding for road construction and traffic improvement projects in Bay City and Tuscola County,” said Kildee.  “All these projects will help improve the quality of our local roads, increase economic productivity and expedite the commute for thousands of area residents.”

Under TEA-LU, parts of Bay County will receive a total of $2.56 million in federal funding for two major road projects that will improve traffic safety and alleviate congestion.  Bay City will receive $1.6 million for street reconstruction and road improvements to North Henry Street from Vermont Avenue to Wilder Road.  Essexville will also receive $960,000 to reconstruct the intersection at Woodside Avenue and Borton Avenue.

Congressman Kildee was able to secure $439,160 in federal funds for Tuscola County to finance two projects designed to increase access to rural areas and improve traffic safety.  The Village of Millington will receive $416,000 to replace Cain Road Bridge and to upgrade the rest of Cain Road from Industrial Drive to Millington Road.  The Village of Cass City will receive $23,160 to construct an access road to help develop a 65-acre municipal tract of industrial land.

The Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (TEA-LU) is the latest reauthorization of the six-year federal highway and transit bill, which provides billions of dollars in federal funding for our nation’s highways and transit systems.  Funding for the reauthorization of this bill is provided by the revenue currently available in the Highway Trust Fund.
