WASHINGTON, D.C. –General Motors announced today that five U.S. plants will receive additional investments, including $32 million for the Bay City Powertrain facility to build engine components. Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI), Co-Chair of the Congressional Automotive Caucus, hailed the announcement as an important economic opportunity for the region and as further indication that G.M. is back on the path to productivity and profitability. He released the following statement:
“This is wonderful news for our local economy. I have been working closely with the Administration, G.M. and other stakeholders to protect our workers and retirees, keep jobs in our communities and help G.M. on its way back to long-term viability. Today’s announcement that G.M. is investing an additional $32 million in the Bay City Powertrain plant and will save or create more than 80 jobs, is further indication that G.M. is indeed back on the path to productivity and profitability. While our work is far from over, this is encouraging news and I look forward to G.M. once again helping to drive the American economy. The health of our auto industry is critical to the economic stability of our local communities, our state and our entire Nation and I have always said that what America drives, drives America. I will continue to work to ensure the future success of this American icon.” |
