| Washington, D.C.- Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Delta College Public Broadcasting would receive the third installment of a multi-year grant in the amount of $1,104,856 to finance the digital conversion of public television stations WDCQ and WDCP (Q-TV). The $1,104,856 grant will help fund the final phase of this project, which will allow Delta Q-TV to purchase a new digital transmitter, antenna, transmission line, and microwave interconnection system. This marks the third consecutive year that the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, a division of the U.S. Commerce Department, has awarded federal funds to Delta College in order to meet the FCC’s digital conversion mandate.
“Delta College Public Broadcasting continues to contribute significantly to our community by providing educational, instructional and cultural programs,” said Kildee. “These federal funds will ensure that Delta Q-TV will continue to enhance our community by providing quality programs to residents in mid-Michigan.”
Delta College’s Q-TV operation serves Michigan’s Saginaw, Bay, and Midland Counties as well as the Thumb area and an expanded mid-Michigan radius of 13 other counties. A few years ago, the station expanded its audience with the purchase of a new 1000-foot tower in Tuscola County. This new location will not only allow Q-TV’s signal to reach into all of the homes within its current analog broadcast signal, but will also expand the audience from 800,000 to 1.2 million potential viewers. This latest grant will allow Q-TV to broadcast four channels of educational, informational, instructional, and entertaining digital programming into the homes, schools and businesses in mid-Michigan. |
